Gamelan

Imagine a Music that takes wing, plunging and diving like a playful swarm of fireflies. Music that takes wing with the audacity and magic of the mythical bird-like Garuda.

Imagine a “Music that flies”, like some mythical creature not bound by earthly constraints of time and space. Imagine this and know that the beauty of the music of the Gamelan is even beyond this vision.

Water

Water is the best of all things.

PINDAR (C. 522-C. 438 B.C.), Olympian Odes

Water has become a highly precious resource. There are some places where a barrel of water costs more than a barrel of oil.

Lloyd Axworthy, Foreign Minister of Canada (1999 - News Conference)

More than one-half of the world's major rivers are being seriously depleted and polluted, degrading and poisoning the surrounding ecosystems, thus threatening the health and livelihood of people who depend upon them for irrigation, drinking and industrial water

Ismail Serageldin, Chairman of the World Commission on Water for the 21st Century- Water Forum, Netherlands, November 30, 1999

If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water.

LORAN EISELY, The Immense Journey, 1957

All the water that will ever be is, right now.

National Geographic, October 1993

If you gave me several million years, there would be nothing that did not grow in beauty if it were surrounded by water.

JAN ERIK VOLD, What All The World Knows, 1970

Water is H2O, hydrogen two parts, oxygen one, but there is also a third thing, that makes water and nobody knows what that is.

D.H. LAWRENCE (1885-1930), Pansies, 1929

Water has no taste, no color, no odor; it cannot be defined, art relished while ever mysterious. Not necessary to life, but rather life itself. It fills us with a gratification that exceeds the delight of the senses.

ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPERY (1900-1944), Wind, Sand, and Stars, 1939

Water is the one substance from which the earth can conceal nothing; it sucks out its innermost secrets and brings them to our very lips.

JEAN GIRAUDOUX (1882-1944), The Madwomen of Chaillot, 1946

When the well is dry, we know the worth of water.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, (1706-1790), Poor Richard's Almanac, 1746

The crisis of our diminishing water resources is just as severe (if less obviously immediate) as any wartime crisis we have ever faced. Our survival is just as much at stake as it was at the time of Pearl Harbor, or the Argonne, or Gettysburg, or Saratoga

JIM WRIGHT, U.S. Representative, The Coming Water Famine, 1966

High quality water is more than the dream of the conservationists, more than a political slogan; high quality water, in the right quantity at the right place at the right time, is essential to health, recreation, and economic growth.

EDMUND S. MUSKIE, U.S. Senator, speech, 1 March 1966

Children of a culture born in a water-rich environment, we have never really learned how important water is to us. We understand it, but we do not respect it.

WILLIAM ASHWORTH, Nor Any Drop to Drink, 1982

Ramadhan

"(It was) the month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’aan, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month…"
~ [al-Baqarah 2:185]

"(Fasting) for a fixed number of days; but if any of you is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed number (Should be made up) from days later. And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew"

BOY GENIUS

Aku lah Adi Putra
Melayu tidak pernah lupa

Aku berfikir rasional
Aku berfikir internasional

Hujan biarlah bertempat
Marah biar bersopan
Kurang ajar biarlah berbudi bahasa

Tersirat mereka tak nampak
Tersurat saja mereka lihat
Di mana silapnya

Ayuh bangsaku! Bangunlah...
Kita jadikan Melayu hebat dipersada dunia
Akulah model insan anak Melayu jati Wawasan 2020

Takkan Melayu hilang di dunia
Pantang Melayu menderhaka pada Sultannya

Mengapa bersembunyi diri di sebalik ibu pertiwi
sejengkalpun tanah ku di jajah
Biar puteh tulang jangan puteh mata

THE ROCKERS

Does anyone remember laughter?
Robert Plant

I may not believe in myself, but I believe in what I'm doing.
Jimmy Page

Years ago, I thought up the name Queen. It's just a name. But it's regal, obviously, and - sounds splendid.
Freddie Mercury

I'm very moved by Renaissance music, but I still love to play hard rock - though only if it's sophisticated and has some thought behind it.
Ritchie Blackmore

How can you consider flower power outdated? The essence of my lyrics is the desire for peace and harmony. That's all anyone has ever wanted. How could it become outdated?
Robert Plant

Excuse me while I kiss the sky.
Jimi Hendrix

A Samad Ismail

We cannot discuss the future of the Malay language without at the same time discussing the future of the Malay people...The history of the Malay language is the history of the Malay people. The future of the Malay language will be the future of the Malay people.

Malay writers, in particular must recognise their active responsibility.

History moulds man, but man in turn creates and mould history.
On Time magazine and the Readers’ Digest, “Is that your only window to the world?”
